Living In Waco
Waco, TX is located in McLennan County which has a population of 213,517 (Source: 2000 census). Waco is named after the Waco Indians, the first inhabitants of this area. The Wacos were a branch of the Wichitas and were closely related to the Towakonis. The people lived in beehive shaped huts, 20 to 25 feet high, made of poles, buffalo hides and rushes. Their village was located about a half mile from the Brazos River where they grew corn, beans, pumpkins, and melons. The Crepe Myrtle is Waco's official tree.
